Our 36th Annual Diocesan Synod was held June 6-8 at the Fairfax Marriott Hotel at Fair Oaks in Fairfax, VA. It was an excellent Synod. In addition to the usual business session, all of the delegates participated in one of three future-oriented brainstorming sessions: communication, education, and outreach/ evangelism. In his charge to the Synod, Bishop Lerow outlined the need for our Church to focus on sharing the Gospel and making disciples. He also explained how the three working groups were a response to the top three concerns expressed by members of the Diocese. The Rev. Mark Becher from St. Matthew’s in Newport Beach, CA was the banquet speaker, and he gave a dynamic and inspirational talk, based on his own experience, on how the ACC can reach young adults (he and his wife are in their late 20s). Father Rob was appointed to the Diocesan Commission on Holy Orders and continues to serve on the Executive Committee until 2014. The Diocesan Choir provided some wonderful music for the worship services. On another note, it is not too early to consider volunteering to serve as a delegate at next year’s Synod, which will be held either the first or second week of June 2014.
